The advantage of surface solar photovoltaic power plants is that they can be stored in almost any body of water, ponds, lakes, canals and water.

There are two types of surface photovoltaic power stations, one is fixed, and the other is floating. The fixed type requires piling. As with the conventional ground photovoltaic power station, the moisture resistance of the solar module and the firmness of the foundation are mainly preferred, as well as the safety of the cables and wires.

First of all, it is clear that the surface photovoltaic power station is floating in the middle of a river or lake, which is why a floating support with characteristics is needed. It must have enough strength to support the panel, but it must be flexible enough to handle waves up to 3.28 feet, while keeping the array safe from harm.

Floating solar panels must be kept at least 3 feet above the water surface and should not come into contact with high salinity water. Even with low salt content (no more than 15 actual salinity units (PSU)) in water, water can degrade the components of the brackets and components, resulting in reduced power generation.
At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the wiring and cables are isolated, and that the insulation is protected from getting wet. You need to be at least 1.6 feet above the water.

All modules installed in the floating array should have appropriate degree of protection (IP) connectors and junction boxes. IP ratings help products to be classified into water ingress beyond the vague term "waterproof". Most solar modules have an IP rating that protects them from "splashing water" (IP64) all the way to 3.28 feet of water for 30 minutes (IP67). REC solar modules have an IP67 protection rating. A key component of solar panels in these environments is the sealant.

When floating power stations appear, this means that you will often find waterfowl nesting nearby, surrounded by flocks. And if enough bird droppings are on the array, it can reduce electricity production.
The easiest way to prevent contamination is to keep the birds away from the array, which can take the form of pulsed nets, spikes or pulses, providing a small electric shock (without enough damage to them, it is enough to make it uncomfortable). It is best to use a pointed needle or net, although nets are better because spikes have to abandon the shadow array and reduce power output.

Of course, if birds build their nests in an array, it becomes a matter of operation and maintenance. You need to get people or machines into the array to keep the panels clean. There is currently no best practice.
Finally, if you pay attention to these three guidelines, you can install a successful "surface PV project. This is a new growth front for the global solar industry.
